This is the first picture I've seen of Arantzazu that I am sending you here. It's a holy site where there was, purportedly, thousands of years ago, an apparition of the Virgin Mary. She was discovered by some shepherds walking in the night. She was hovering over a thorny bush -- hence, Arantzazu, which in Basque, literally means: over the spiny bush. The priests built a monastery on the top of these wicked cliffs. It's a sanctuary where people go to meditate; Spain's version of visiting the yogis. So people come from all over the world, walking, to pay homage to the Virgin, or just to get some spiritual cleansing I suppose. I went once as a child. All I can remember is the mountains. The food around there is also very good. I'd love to explore the Basque region of Spain that I barely know with someone like you.
